About the colours in the main panel:

• Blue: is required, and if the frame is red it's because it should be filled*
• Gray: is optional
• White: means ignored (by BibTeX)

* The standard BibTeX definition contains some required fields where one OR another OR both mus be filled. (Like a Book must have author OR editor). We'we ignored this detail and marked both fields as required. (Checking all the time if a neighbour field was filled or not, we decided, would be a waste of time and CPU) So just ignore the "warning" when you know your'e right. If it bothers you, just edit the style file plainstyle.ini(or preferrably edit a copy of the stylefile and change the style file in config.ini in case you corrupt the style file) and set what ever fields you like as optional.
